Subjects Taught
All subjects are taught at Key Stages 1 and 2 and are tailored to suit the needs of your child.

Maths
Mathematics is an essential skill used in everyday life and is a core subject within the curriculum, acting as a gateway to other subjects. Pupils will begin with recall and fluency exercises in the core skills and then move on to problem solving exercises of increasing difficulty. They will also be taught how to explain and justify their answers in order to clarify any misconceptions early and to embed and deepen their learning. These will form the basis for rich discussion and follow-up activities depending on the learning requirements of the pupil(s).

English
Proficient use of reading, writing and speaking skills are the gateway to the entire curriculum. Skills practised include spellings, punctuation and grammar which are developed through extended writing work and other extension activities. A variety of texts are explored through guided reading, drama and comprehension activities. Oracy activities hold a high level of importance and ensure that each child is given ample opportunity to share their ideas, with questions and focused discussions actively encouraged.

Science
Pupils will develop their understanding and use of scientific vocabulary and concepts using oracy skills coupled with practical activities and partner work. The goal is for pupils to be curious about the new concepts that they learn and to try to discover their own solutions to experiments.

History
History helps pupils to understand how civilisations have shaped countries throughout the world following a timeline. Pupils will learn to use critical thinking skills to analyse evidence and arguments from which they can then produce their own accounts.

Geography
Pupils will learn about people and the world in which they live. It includes the natural and human environments and the processes by which they evolve. A variety of sources, including maps and aerial photographs, will be used to learn the location of a number of globally significant places.

Music
ABRSM music theory is a perfect way to learn about the essential building blocks of music, beginning with the basics of rhythm and notes. Grade 5 theory is the exam which is required to continue past the level of any grade 5 instrumental practical exams. These are building blocks which enable pupils, who have no previous experience, to learn to play music.
