E-learning from home: How to make it work for your child

To get the most out of your child’s online learning experience, use the following tips:

💥Establish routines and expectations

Make sure that they are ready in plenty of time for lessons, ⏰️ This could include, sitting with tabs and windows open a device and being ready in the waiting room 10 minutes prior to the lesson.  Have pens, paper and any other equipment that you might need to jot down notes where necessary.  This forward planning can help to put your child in a working frame of mind and gives them time to mentally prepare for the lesson.

💥Find an effective place to learn

Using a space that is free of clutter and is quiet has the benefit of reducing the number of distractions that can occur and keeps your child’s attention focused on the job at hand.  Having a good Internet connection or a hotspot on a mobile phone are essential for the smooth running of an online lesson. 👍

💥Empower your child to ‘own’ their learning

Encourage your child to get involved and let them know that it’s OK, and in fact encouraged, to ask questions. 🙋‍♀️  By doing this they are reducing the likelihood of harbouring misconceptions or not understanding something.  In fact, it’s all part of a successful learning journey.

💥Be part of the learning team

Make sure that you feel part of the learning team as well.🧑‍🧑‍🧒  Read any feedback given on your child’s progress at the end of each lesson.  Ask your child some questions about the topic that they learnt to help them practice memory recall, and to help them clarify their ideas.

💥Take an active break

Online, one-to-one tutoring is an extremely effective way of studying but it can take quite a lot of energy to remain focused throughout the lesson. Make sure that your child takes an active break before and after the lesson to help boost their mental and creative energy.
